IUI & Endometriosis?

Question

Do you know if IUI is contraindicated for patients with endometriosis? My doctor did a laparoscopy and she found and treated stage 2 endo. A few days later she had me do my first IUI. I've been reading Dr Sher's book In Vitro Fertilization: The ART of Making Babies. He says in this book that endo creates a hostile environment for the egg and that IUI isn't likely to work and patients should go to IVF. Have you heard of this before? What does your doctor say?

I am living proof pregnancy can happen with endo. I have suffered for years. My hsg showed my tubes were open so we went ahead with IUI cycles. (My husband also has low sperm court and I have now low AMH) but I am 6 weeks pregnant now. I say go for the IUI. We were pregnant on #3. Don't let it stop you from trying ❤️

I should also add I had the endo lap surgery back in 2010. I would suggest that for sure

I think (though I am NOT a dr) thatiui can work if you have endo, so long as your tubes are open and you're ovulating. Ivf is necessary if your tubes are blocked, you're not ovulating or your dealing with sperm issues.

I have had iui x2 already with Endo. None have worked so it might just be better to go right to ivf

I've definitely heard of people getting pregnant with endo. I've read some interesting studies though that it hasn't been proven that laparoscopy improves chances of getting pregnant for endo patients. Does anyone know of studies about pregnancy rates with endo? With no intervention? IUI? Ivf?

Hi Rachel any anyone else who is interested - can we create a new group for Endo and iui/ivf? I am technologically inept and don't quite know how to do that, but it could be nice!

One thing I've heard and read is that endo creates a toxic environment for the egg and sperm. In about 5% of cases, endo actually blocks a tube and physically makes pregnancy difficult. But most of the time with endo it's actually the toxic environment the endo creates that makes pregnancy difficult. Which means IUI doesn't really increase your chances much.

AF showed today - IUI #4 no success. I'm not sure if I should do IUI #5 or just move on to IVF. This feels hopeless!

I asked the doctor what my chances are with my next IUI. (I have an endometrioma on each ovary) and he said about 10%. I have had three failed IUIs. In each case everything looked great: good sperm count/motility, at least 3 mature follicles, did the ovidrel trigger shot and timed the IUI perfectly, but no luck.
