Painful periods

Kailey
I've always had really painful periods. But I had the pleasure of experiencing the most severe cramps of my life today. They were so bad they woke me up in tears at 4am. Because of the pain, I was extremely nauseous as well. My doctor has prescribed naproxen, however I am supposed to take that with food, which obviously is an issue when I'm nauseous. My OBGYN suspects endometriosis, but obviously we can't really know for sure without exploratory lap. She also recommended putting me on birth control to "give my body a break" from all of this, but I'm really reluctant to get on birth control....
My questions are: do any of you who experience painful periods and endometriosis have any tips to manage the pain in instances where taking oral medication is not an option (nausea and vomiting)? And are there any of you that have figured out a way to manage outside of birth control?
I would really appreciate any insight you all may have.
