Are Prenatal's really necessary?

I know a lot of doctors recommend them but are they actually important?

Yep. Folic acid is really important to a developing fetus, especially before you know you're pregnant. It's proven to prevent spinal abnormalities.

Yes very important! I was taking prenatals before I was even pregnant because it's crucial your growing baby gets Folic Acid from very early on in your pregnancy to help prevent birth defects.

I'm not convinced they are necessary, but I haven't started throwing up yet either.  I am eating very specific foods that are full of foliate like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower and sunflower ans chia seeds just to name a few. A lot of prenatal and multi vitamins have extra additives added to them and I would rather not put those in my body. For now I am eating all of the foods that provide me with the nutrients my baby and I need but understand that if at some point my body won't allow me to eat those food I will definatly be looking at natural supplements.

They are so important!! You should have started taking them 3 months before you get preg or at least start as soon you get preg. They're most important in the first tri as folate and other nutrients prevent neural tube defects and other issues. Some say you don't need them after the first tri, but others say they're needed all the way through - I'll stick with this just to be safe because for some of the things in a prenatal can't be obtained from even the best diet.

I've heard the main reason we take prenatals is because the baby takes our minerals and vitamins no matter what. So we must replenish that and make sure we have in enough "stock" for ourselves as well. But I'm sure you can find some Organic prenatals out there some where if you don't like the additives.

I think they are, but once again- my grandmothers and even my mom didn't take them and all their kids were fine. So idk, maybe it's just a precaution thing now.

Prenatals are something we as women have just recently started using so I'm not exactly sure if they're necessary or not but knowing I have something that helps with the baby's development is really nice.

I've never questioned it because I found a brand that doesn't make me sick and they're definitely not bad for you. They're recommended for a reason. So, why risk it? I'd much rather err on the side of caution.
