DH has done our cat's boxes since I got my bfp. However, he's in the reserves and had his 2 weeks of training when I was about 8w. So I didn't have much choice. I made sure to wear long rubber gloves (like for doing dishes) and wash with hot water and dish soap everytime I had to do it. Ideally we shouldn't be doing it but if you have no way around it, there are ways.

If you can and it, don't clean a box. If you just, wear good latex gloves, as well as a face mask, which you can get from the pharmacy. It will cut down on the inhalant dust from the box, then wash your hands and face afterward. I work with cats for a living, so some contact is unavoidable for me. You can request a toxoplasmosis test from your obg if you are concerned.

We have an electronic kitty litter where a sensor goes off and scoops it into a back compartment. You can buy them at walmart. My husband then disposes of the compartment every few days or so!
