Is being on birth control at 17 an issue ?

My friends on birth control for cramps 
Is it harmful to start this early ? She plans to keep using them for a few years.

No. Once you start menstruating, birth control is something to be considered. Especially if you plan on having sex.

it's smart if u plan to have to have sex. but i feel i should warn u that the longer u use birth control, there may be risks in the future if u plan to have children. idk the exact science of it, but my older cousin started using birth control at 19. now she's 34, married, trying to start a family and has been off the pill for a couple yrs. she hasnt been able to conceive yet. her doctor told her that something in the birth control that she was taking may have affected her hormones to the point where her ovaries actually arent releasing eggs. so keep that possibility in mind, if u want to have kids someday.

Nope, it's not bad at all! The pill even reduces your risk of certain cancers (ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer) especially if taken for many years.

It's totally okay to start using BC at 17 (or even younger) and there is no need to take breaks from BC later on. I personally recommend the Mirena IUD, but it's all about finding the right method for you :)

I was on bc from 16-18 for cramps. It balanced everything out and now I have lovely periods without...or at least as lovely as a period can get.

I think it's fine. She should probably switch at some point her BC like every 2-3 yrs for instance progesterone vs. estrogen.
