Promised?

Mt boyfriend has a huge surprise for me on Christmas eve. He has asked what my ring size is what my favorite stone is and said that when it comes time for the surprise he is going to be serious about it. . . I need some other opinions do you think he is getting me a promise ring or more or am I just making a big deal out of nothing?
