How will this harm my child?

Question

For those of you that think it does...
how does letting boys play with "girls" toys harm them? Why is it bad?
Same for girls playing with "boys" toys. Does that harm girls? Is that wrong?
Does not teaching gender roles do them a disservice?
I'm curious to understand the reasoning behind this view point.

As a parent your priority should be to educate them, broaden their horizons, and let them (safely) live their life as an adventerous child, for example- my son loves pink. (Side note: did you know that back in the day pink was the defined masculine color and blue was represented as feminine) anyway. My son loves pink and always has- I refuse to be like "no son, pink is a GIRLS color- you can't have it." Sounds idiotic. So many people are mad that kids are to infatuated with TV and video games but might reprimand or tell them they're doing something wrong if they play or want something that could be for the other gender? I'm sorry but as a parent you pick your battles, and THIS is one that is irrelevant. Let your child be a child and figure out what they want for themselves, especially since this doesn't hurt a single person- except maybe your own child's feelings.

Personally I don't think it "harms" them. But I do need my children to know what men do & what women do(standard gender roles for our family). I have a son & daughter & they play with each other's toys. But I draw the line at my son wearing dresses & high heels. It's my personal preference & the way I raise MY children.

Not letting boys play with any toy they want probably won't harm them, besides the fact that telling them they aren't allowed or supposed to play with certain toys will give them the idea that there's something wrong with people who play with the toys they are supposedly not allowed to. I just see it setting up a child to bully others in the furture for being "different."

My son my kid.. If I don't want them to play with something it's as simple as that.. sorry but he will not put on make up or paint his toes. ?

I don't think it will "harm" anyone.  That being said, I believe in gender and gender roles, to an extent.  I honestly think it's weird that society thinks we need to have a genderless world. I personally LOVE being a woman.I love that my hubby is manly and big and strong.
I didn't marry a man so he could act like a woman. 
As for my kid, he is a boy, so I buy him boy toys. I'm not going to buy him a Barbie doll or princess dress because I'm worried liberals will think I'm a bad parent otherwise. 
If he had a sister and they were playing house together with her dolls, then whatever, that doesn't bug me. My little brother played with me and my sister sometimes.  But if my son never has any desire for dolls or tea sets, then why on earth would I even buy them???  I don't need to buy girl toys for my son to know he doesn't want them.  When we are at the toy store he doesn't go for the pink girl aisles, he heads to the trucks and sports stuff.

This is outrageous. It does not matter what gender specific toy a child plays with. What is important is how you child opens their mind, creativity, and imagination to their toys. As a nanny, I never stress enough how important toys are. Toys are getting less and less popular due to technology, but it's so important for a child's development. It doesn't matter what your sons plays with Barbies or cars. Once he's playing. I once cared for a kid that loved to play with dolls and when asked what he wanted to be when he grows up he would always respond " I want to be a dancing ballerina". His parents nor myself corrected him. We only encouraged him. He was 3 then, now he is a girl crazed 14yo and has since opted out of wanting to be a dancing ballerina and is now an awesome pianist with hopes of attending Jillard in the future. point is if a child is going to be gay the factors that makes it so has nothing to do with gender specific items.

Yeah, I've allowed my child to play with "girl" toys before and, so far, he's turned out to be a normal little boy. Who the hell says it's boys for boys and girls for girls?! I grew up playing with my brothers toys and I think I turned out okay. That's like saying men can't cook because that's for women only, or women can't hunt because it's just for men! I feel sorry for all the children that are FORCED to play with gender specific toys. Guess what I'm doing when my son gets home from school? I'm going to help him bake in HIS easy bake oven and then, if he asks, I'll let him do my hair and makeup! At the end of the day, I'll go to bed knowing that we made all these wonderful memories and we get to do it all again tomorrow, if he so chooses! If you don't like it, then tough shit! Our lives, our choice!
