There's always a thinning before there's a fattening is this true?

So I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant and I've lost a good bit of weight as I no longer have any love handles, it was my mum that mentioned it to me that there's a thinning before a fattening, I'm just interested to know if most people lose weight before they start to show ?

I am 9w and 5d and have lost 8lbs. I'm not complaining bc I certainly have some to lose but I just pray baby is getting what it needs.

I lost weight in the first tri too. I am now almost 16 weeks and still a pound lighter than my starting weight but at least it's coming back! Dr isn't worried, says it's fairly common.

I lost about 4-6 lbs before I started gaining weight (my bloat went away too). I have gained all of my weight back now that I am in my second trimester.
