This is pretty dumb but what's your opinion?

Question

So I'm friends with this guy from college. We were on the same graduating class in high school but didn't know each other.  I have a bit of a crush on him. We're in the same major and have done homework together in the past. He wasn't in school this past semester because of an internship and we kind of kept in touch through texting. He would text me every once in awhile. He'll say something like "hey how are you?" or "hey how is it going? Do you have finals this week?" I'll respond but a lot of times he won't respond to my reply. Then last week I initiated a conversation with him and we sent a couple messages back and forth but he didn't respond to the last message. I just asked what he was doing until we got back to school in a couple weeks.
So my question is how would you take his not replying? Does he just not enjoy having texting conversations? He tends to be a man of few words and doesn't have a Facebook. Or do you think he's not interested? Or maybe both?
Also when would it be appropriate to text him again? How could I go about asking him to hang out? Any advice would be appreciated!

I do realize how stupid it is to analyze a guys texting or lack thereof. I just thought I'd get a second opinion anyways.

With my husband we would be constantly  texting. With my "somewhat" friends mainly the males it's more of a keep in touch gesture, the "hey, how are you?" "That's awesome, have fun" kind of text.

I don't think he's interested. It's very obvs when a guy is into you and if you have to question it, they're either too young orrr he's just not that Into you.

Hell I don't text people back for days sometimes lol ! But these are people I know for years so they know how I am. If he is a texter and he is not replying maybe he is not interested. Some guys don't like texting. I would just ask him out in person next time you see him. No point waiting for a text when you see him at school. I know it's hard but just ask him if he would like to hang out outside of school etc.. Some guys can be shy also or not sure if you like them.

I've always been the straight forward type. If you like him, let him know. Invite him to a gathering or ask him on a date. It may not go as planned, but you'll at least know and then it just may not be a good time but it'll get y'all talking. A few months ago I had asked this guy out to a formal dining, I was without a date, he appreciated the thought but told me he was interested in someone else. Come to think about it, I'm kind of glad. I had started noticing him in church but once I asked and started talking notice I also started talking notice in a few other things. I may see him at church every now and again, but other than that he doesn't even cross my mind. I hope that helps and best of luck to you. I hate it when you're interested in a guy and that happens. It causes us to over think things.

I don't know about him, but I know when I don't text back it's usually because I'm not interested enough in the conversation to,  or I'm just busy and forget to reply lol
