Potty-Training?

Question

I'm a FTM, and was wondering if it was too soon to start potty-training my 18 month old daughter? Tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

I started my daughter at 12 months taking her to the potty to pee every morning to get her used to it then when she caught in to that I started putting her on the potty every hour and slowly she learned that's where you go and would walk over to the bathroom to let me know she had to pee. She was fully trained daytime and nighttime about a month before her 2nd birthday. Biggest thing was once we really started I had her in cloth trainers and never put a diaper back on so it didn't confuse her. We also used a sticker chart and each time she used the potty she got to put a sticker on. My son is 13 months ok'd and is now starting to walk to his potty when he has to go. We cloth diaper and I believe it's a big advantage with training since they feel when they pee so they learn quicker as opposed to a disposable that soaks it up so they are not set and don't feel the difference to make the connection. My daughter has been fully potty trained since 2 1/2. She's now almost 4. We has tried to get her potty trained before that but she wasn't ready.  I just waited for her to start showing signs. Try offering rewards. My friend gave me the idea of a "potty party." It worked!

No way! My friend started potty training her daughter at 18 months and she was potty trained by two. Occassionally she will have a terrible twos moment and pee on the toilet with the lid down and laugh, we had too much fun in the kiddie pool outside and she wound up pooping in the yard, but for two years old she is usually all over it!

I started my son at 2 years... my mom told me that when my siblings and I were all little (there's 7 of us kids) that she had all the girls potty trained by 18 months and all the boys by 2.5 years... but I also believe it depends on your child. If they seem ready then go for it! Just once you start don't switch back and be prepared for lots of laundry and cleaning up accidents lol.

I don't think that's too soon at all. Girls learn quicker than boys. I would suggest not pushing her though if she's not ready, it may do the opposite and take her longer. When my daughter was at the age of potty training we tried to encourage her and she one day just didn't want to anymore so we didn't push it for awhile and she just decided she was ready and is completely comfortable now. Fun training pants help but they're not very absorpant. It helps too to put a potty in a room where she plays a lot. That helped TONS with my son. He avoided that thing at all costs!

We started when my daughter was 2.5 and it was fine. She still wears nappies to bed though, she is 3 and a bit.  Friends who started earlier actually took longer in the end- our kids are the same age. Google signs your child is ready to start toilet training, there's some good tips online. Good luck!
