Clomid question

This might be a stupid question but I'm curious. My doctor put me on clomid cause my cycles were 40+ days and he didn't think I was ovulating...if three cycles don't work then my husband and I decided that we'll take a break from TTC for a couple months. If I ovulate on clomid is there any chance I'll start ovulating without it or is clomid my only reason for ovulating?
