The eye ointment is the same antibiotics that people begs their doctor for when they have bacterial conjunctivitis. It's harmless and it certainly doesn't hurt my baby in getting it even though I'm negative for GBS. It's not just for gnorrhea and chlamydia. Some women do have it on their vagina just as people have mrsa on their skin.

I never really thought about even not giving the vit k. When I was in clinicals at the children's hospital here I had a patient he was 4 months or so and dying. He had hemmoragic disease. His parents were the all natural sort. Not that that is bad but the baby didn't  receive the vitamin K shot at birth. He was unable to clot his blood and this developed into hemorrhagic disease. I don't know how common this is or anything but I don't ever want to see another baby go through what this poor little one went through. Please I'm begging all of you who voted no.... Please really consider all the possibilities of what could happen 😕

My son had the goo and shot because I had some abnormal cells on my cervix before I even became pregnant with him and they weren't an std or anything like that, they were potentially cancerous cells which is what we found out after he was born because they had to scrape the cells away and I they did it during my exam when I found out I was pregnant I could've miscarried him.

I have just started to research this and it sounds like the eye goop is completely unnecessary unless you have an STD. It contains bad chemicals and is actually an antibiotic. I think I want my baby to have a few weeks of life before being pumped with "stuff."  The vitamin K shot contains 22,000% more than they need, with other preservatives. (This is what I've found in my research) I look forward to hearing other responses to this.

I don't have group B strep, nor have I ever been exposed to or had gonorhea so no- my baby wont get the antibiotic goup on the eyes. Vitamin k they will get as the risks of life threatening vitamin K deficiency are higher in exclusively breast fed babies. With the antibiotic ointment though- it is a law in most states so you will have to sign a waiver and most hospitals will try and guilt you into it but you ALWAYS have the right to refuse
