Is it possible to have your period every month as usual and be pregnant?

I've read several blogs and articles of people that its happened to, some said they've had their period for six months and pregnant. It sounds bizarre to me however I'd like to know if anyone has experience this.

I have 3 children. And with all my pregnancies I bled. Mostly until I was 5 months. The doctor said with my last child it was because I have placenta previa. Which is dangerous. But with my first 2 he never gave me a reason. He said everything was fine. All my daughters were born healthy.

I haven't experienced it but my grandmother said she had periods for 6 months with my dad.
