Do marriage vows actually mean anything to anyone?

Seems there's  a lot of divorce these days! Marriage is hard work and not always peaches and cream, just wondering if I'm in the minority that feels married couples (with or without kids) should give the relationship everything they have got! Divorce in my opinion should only be allowed in certain specific cases! I feel couples use it as an easy out once married! Vows mean something and matter!

I'm divorced .. So are you saying my vows didn't mean anything because of that? You don't know people's stories and you don't live in that household. Pretty judgemental comment. I'm happy I'm divorced. I have now found MY TRUE LOVE! No regrets.

I don't think that the reason anyone chooses to divorce is anyone's business except the people involved. I also think that it's important to realize no one divorced in the past not because marriages meant more but because women were stuck without a means to support themselves and their children. So they had to stay while they were being beaten and cheated on. (How fantastic and meaningful right?!)

A lot of the reason our grandparents stayed together and never divorced is because less than fifty years ago, women were trapped in marriages without their own income or education and didn't have the resources to make it if they left their husbands. Add children to the mix and of course it's near impossible to file for divorce! Plus, a lot of these women were domestic violence survivors. People didn't somehow become devil-may-care about marriage overnight and "the good old days" are a myth. The world was terrible then and it's terrible now and it has not a thing to do with the divorce rate.

Absolutely! My husband and I said vows before God, and although marriage isn't always easy, it's for life. We're in it for the long haul.

Oh yes. We opted for the traditional vows for that reason, I just love the truth behind them and wanted to remind all the other couples of the promises made. I don't understand all the cheating I read about on this app but different people make the world go round💕

Well I guess it spends on who you ask. I have a lot of cheating that goes on at my place of employment and if you ask me they don't seem to take their marriages very seriously at all! I fact we have a woman who with her husband has adopted 3 kids and her husband paid for IVF for them because she wanted to have a child naturally and she couldn't for one reason or another, ended up giving birth to twins, plus he treated her like a queen and yet that's not enough for her because she talks about him like dirt at work and cheated on him for years before she got him to buy her a new car and house all of which went into her name only, and then after that threw him out to be with one of the men she cheated on him with!!! To add to it he's such a good man that he's not gonna fight her for anything because he doesn't want to add drama to their kids lives!!! Unbelievable huh???!!! Hard to believe in the meaning of marriage where I work, there are several more stories I could tell you guys.  My marriage however will last for eternity if I have anything to say about it. In fact I told my husband before we married that he better think long and hard about if he wants to be with me forever or not because I wasn't signing any divorce papers lol!!!

You can't really judge anyone. You don't know exactly what's going on... I think most people do take there bows seriously and sometimes divorce happens.

I believe in working through your problems, and in my religion, divorce is only permissible twice. I do not, however, feel that a person should stay in a miserable situation for the sake of being married.
