How interested are you of the pro-vax anti-vax debate?

Question

I've been bombarded with vaccination debate lately, I'm just feeling overwhelmed and beat down by all of the jabs coming from both sides. Just trying to see if I'm alone in those feelings and see where most people's heads are on it. NOT LOOKING for your opinions on the topic (pro/anti/purple unicorn conspiracies) just what you feel about the current portrayal and bombardment by media.

I think it's a very important topic with implications beyond just the nightmare of watching the resurgence of preventable deaths and diseases. I think it's going to be a damn shame if the government has to step in and start enforcing vaccinations, because once they breach that bastion of bodily autonomy what's next? If people were more responsible and less prone to the scare tactics employed by these psuedoscientists we would have a higher vaccination rate, and the only ones who were not vaccinated would be those that TRULY cannot have them. If the government is forced to step in who knows how far the implications could go? It may set a court precedent that abridges other freedoms that we all cherish.They are putting people's lives and in the long run, possibly their freedoms, at risk. It is base short-sighted selfishness and stupidity and it needs to be brought to heel sharply.

As someone who is herself immunocompromised (but is lucky enough to be able to be vaccinated,) AND works with the public, this isn't just of interest, but a public health crisis. People choosing not to vaccinate directly affects people like me. "Just" the measles could potentially put me or someone like me in the hospital because of my own health issues. It's not "just" the measles.

Also, as the aunt of a girl with autism (who was diagnosed before her vaccinations,) the fear of autism in the anti-vax community appalls me. Not only is that study so bogus it's laughable, they would rather lose a "normal" child or have a child have to live with lifelong complications from a preventable disease than have a child like my niece? She's not the boogeyman. She's a little girl. She's six, and despite her verbal delay and her stims, is just a kid. Is this a face to fear?

The debate isn't interesting. It infuriates me. But it affects me and people I love daily, so I'll continue to try.

I don't like arguing, but when one side could decimate the human race, I think we have a responsibility to argue.

here is my personal rule i will not give my children a vaccine that has been out less than 10 year.  i have seen many come and go but its generally within 5-7years but if they have been out that long i trust they are relatively safe...  but if you infect my baby with something that could have been prevented and it really hurts or kills my children you better hope i never get my hands on you

I'm not so much interested as I feel powerless and in dispair about this whole debate.

Not trying to hurt or argue, just expressing my own desperation. I find it heart-breaking. People getting hurt over something so stupid. As far as I know this topic is only big in America. In the Netherlands everyone gets vaccinated. I just hope it's all a fad and that it blows over soon. (and I don't mean the diseases obviously :P)
