D&C vs waiting to bleed?

Today I had an appointment that I didn't expect to have.. Started last night with some cramping and light brown spotting. Called the doc and they wanted to see me again and they did an abdominal and transvagjnal ultrasound. I am supposed to be 9 weeks 6 days today, but I found out the baby does not have a heartbeat and died at 6 weeks 6 days. My OBGYN said my options are o have a D&C or wait to bleed. Has anyone ever experienced this? He said that waiting could be another month or more, and I'm leaning toward a D&C so my husband and I can move on and start again. Thanks for your advice!!!
