Natural med free birth?

Question

Ok so I had my first son with an epidural after dr suggesting one because they couldn't keep my son on monitors (pre mature birth so he had to be monitored) because I was leaning over the bed puking but I really want to try without an epidural this time if possible. I was young and terrified the first time so please Any advice??

Watch The Business of Being Born on YouTube. Get a copy of Ina May's guide to natural childbirth (lots and lots of different kinds of natural birth stories) and sign up for a class: Lamaze or Bradley method are really good. There's a hybrid out there called birthing boot camp that's shorter and more intense but same info and all really good classes. The key is be informed- about WHERE you're giving birth and the options, what it is YOU want and how to get your providers to stick to that. Then be prepared- mentally and physically. If you go in thinking it's going to be the worst thing ever- it will be.

I took a hypnobirthing class, it's one of the techniques people use to have a med free birth. I'm hoping it will let me get through with less discomfort. Some folks claim nearly pain free, but the instructor was the first to say that not everyone experiences that.

The one thing to keep in mind is that if you do end up getting an epidural, it's not a failure. There's nothing wrong with using interventions, everybody's different and it's a personal choice.

Read some books or take a class. I am doing both. I took a class called Birthing As Nature Intended and read the book that went with it. Now I'm reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. I truly believe you can do it if you're committed, educate yourself ahead of time, and practice relaxation techniques. A doula would be really helpful too, though by no means necessary.
