Can women opt to have a Cesarean or is it only for emergencies?

They can ask their dr. Or the dr. Could recommend it but with my sister in law her insurance wouldn't cover it unless it was medically necessary.  She went thru labor then had to have emergency c section as my nephew was born 10lbs.6oz.

I wanted to add here c section recovery is no joke. Where you don't have to go through labor your body can have a harder time recovering. Csections have become so common but please remember it is a major surgery. Recovery time is said to be 6-8 weeks or earlier if you don't listen to your doc like I did lol also that's sometimes of not lifting more than 5 pounds, driving, etc. also you still bleed just like a women who vaginally delivers. Also seeking a vbac is much harder if you plan of having more but I pray that gets more common in the future. I'm not trying to scare you but those are simple truths. Just FYI

Most times no. You need a valid reason or insurance companies won't cover it if it's not deemed "necessary" by your doctor. There are many "necessary" reasons that are able to be used that aren't considered an emergency. They are just safer & healthier as an option for that particular mother & pregnancy.
