Contractions? How do you recognize them?

I'm 9w5d and often get cramps, I sometimes feel them left or right side- normal according to my doctor, and sometime really sharp pains passing thru- I'm guessing gas pains.

I'm wondering what contractions feel like? Can anyone share please?

They feel like period cramps times a million.

Contractions move from your back all the way around to your belly button if you press on your uterus with pads of your fingers you can feel the tightening of your uterus .. Cramping early on is ok remember uterus is changing and growing and there are alot of hormones running around

My contractions weren't even close to being like period cramps! Omg so intense! Trust me, you will know the difference!

For me, not period like cramps. More a radiating pain from high on stomach then down lower back that moved forward and then downward. 
Try not to stress too much about it. When the big day comes, you'll be awesome! Be surrounded by professionals that will be there to help you. Are you planning on taking birthing classes? Hubby and I did for our first. Very helpful.  Teacher is great at answering all your questions plus you meet other women and discuss concerns.

Never had a baby, but I just saw my midwife yesterday and she said that for most women, contractions feel like really intense period cramps. I don't know if that's helpful...

For me it felt like sharp gas pains. I wasn't convinced I was in labor until I timed them for an hour and they were exactly 5 minutes apart.  I thought it was just gas lol. I just wasn't expecting it to feel like that. Later when I was dilated to a 4 it felt more like period cramps.
