How does doctor check for dialation ?

Hi, I'm a first time mom. I will get my first cervix checks this coming up tuesday when im 36w2d and I was wondering how exactly does they do it? Do they have to feel around or stick any scary instruments in there? Does it hurt? I'm really freak out right now. I just wanted to know what it's like before I go in there.

Yep. They use their fingers.

They just go in with fingers and check ya. It can be a little painful and may cause spoting but it's over super quick.

With my regular doc it NEVER hurt at all, when I got checked at the hospital when I went in w first baby thinking I was ready for labor- that doc hurt, bigger hands maybe. Sad part was I wasn't even more than a finger tip which I had been at for a week already. Did end up going back next day and delivering though!

They check you with their fingers. I personally find it very very uncomfortable myself but that might just be me im not sure.
