Quitting smoking?

Just found out I'm 8 weeks pregnant. I've been smoking my ecig with the occasional cigarette before I found out. Now that I know I've dropped it all but I'm going through terrible withdrawals. Anyone know what might help? I really don't want to smoke. 😐

Ugh. I just know what's gonna happen when I say this BUT

When I got pregnant with my second I was smoking. Of course I instantly thought 'GOTTA QUIT NOW!' I tried. I failed.

During my first doctor's appointment I discussed it with him, terrified that the few weeks I'd spent smoking before I found out would be an issue. Or the week or two I spent trying to quit would mean imminent death for the baby.

Doc laughed at me. And then advised me NOT to quit. His concern was more the stress from trying to quit while also working full time, taking care of a child, taking care of a house, and a husband.

So I cut down to less than 10 a day as he advised me that studies indicated a pregnant woman who smokes less than 10 cigarettes a day has the same risk factors as a woman who doesn't smoke during pregnancy.

That being said, I am not advising you to continue smoking. I'm simply advising you not to let yourself become too stressed over it because stress can be just as unhealthy for you and your baby as the smoke.

Also remember it isn't easy to quit. And, pregnant or not, you'll probably have slip ups. So if you light up occasionally don't let that get you down or worry you sick.

Nobody is perfect and quitting is hard.

(And my baby is healthy as an ox at 6 years old now. Just for the record)

You are doing what is best for your baby and for yourself. Try to remember that when you have a craving. Tell your family and friends that you have quit. Avoid being around smokers. You can do this!

I just quit as well, and what helped me was candy.  I had a stash of suckers, licorice, and caramels.  I know candy isn't a healthy alternative to smoking, but it really helped me get through the cravings.  After about 2 weeks I no longer need the candy or cigarettes.

I cant give advice unfortunately because the only way i managed to quit was because i got an awful cold and just couldnt face smoking and didnt buy any more after.

What i will say is though, well done you! I know how hard it is and the guilt you feel when you smoke whilst pregnant. i cut right down before i quit completely and some days i wouldnt have one at all. Just dont be too harsh on your self if you slip up. Its not failure, its a moment of weakness that you can over come. Wishing you all the best!
