Baby only feeds for 10 minutes ... Is this enough?

Hi Ladies,

My LO is 2 weeks old today and only feeds for about 10minutes at a time (sometimes 15minutes if he's really hungry). I try and feed him every 3 hours during day-time and 4 hours at night - need to wake him as he loves to sleep :)

I'm worried this might not be enough? What is the average time for a 2 week old baby to feed?

He has more than enough wet diapers throughout the day, at least one every time 2-3hours.

As long as your little one has enough dirty/wet diapers and doesn't seem constantly hungry, you're doing just fine. Babies are all different. If I've learned anything from this experience, it's that you have to do what works for you and your baby. Every baby is different.

Seems like he's just really efficient at nursing you are lucky. I would start to feed on demand now. Let your baby sleep. And let yourself. You both need it. He will wake up when he's hungry.

I've tried to google some more info on this and most of the sites, including La Leche League, says a newborn should be feeding 10 - 20 minutes per breast?

My LO is only feeding 10minutes in total (I try and keep him on one breast for this time so he can get to the hindmilk).

Can this be enough as he doesnt moan after that and easily sleeps for 2 -3 hours before he needs to feed again.

Can you have baby weighed to make sure weight gain is appropriate?  It would help reassure you baby is getting what he/she needs.
