What is hyperemesis gravidarum?
Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) means excessive vomiting in pregnancy. HG is not a common pregnancy condition. It affects up to three per cent of moms-to-be. But if you're unlucky enough to suffer from HG, it is miserable and can be a real worry for you. You'll probably struggle to keep anything down, even your own saliva. HG usually begins at between four weeks and seven weeks, easing off at between 14 weeksand 16 weeks of your pregnancy. In most cases, HG will end by the time you're about 20 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately, for between 10 per cent and 20 per cent of sufferers, HG goes on to last for the whole pregnancy.
Not enough women are aware of this condition, and unfortunately my dear friend is suffering through this condition at this time, and only 11 weeks in! She is in and out of the hospital and has been hospitalized again due to not being able to eat or drink in 5 days.  I complained about my nausea and aversions- but this is another level.  There have been women who past away from this condition before there was much awareness brought in on the subject.   She is now having to have IV therapy so that she is not stuck having to go to the hospital all the time.  In some cases women have had to get a feeding tube.  I'm not sure if any of you are going through this yourselves, but let this be an open thread of support and love for those who literally go through hell to be able to bring their bundle of joy into the World.  I thank God for medical intervention, and the doctors who save many women's lives on daily basis, so they can enjoy the joys of parenting.
