Doppler machine

I recently borrowed a friends Fetal Doppler machine. When I am listening to baby I keep getting really loud noises most of the time like banging kind of I can't really explain it. I'm not sure if the machine is faulty or what? The heartbeat also keeps getting loud then quiet. I have searched the net but can't find anything about it..

Any help ? Suggestions?
