Needle stick injury

I'm a RN and work in a doctors office. I was giving a guy an injection today and after a series of unfortunate event and the need safety mechanism not working and the syringe not going into the sharps container, I got stuck. The guy I was treating has latent stage syphilis, has been in jail, and is a drug user. On top of that I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant. I'm always so careful with sharps and I still am racking my brain on how it was even possible that it happened, but it got me and it drew blood. The word stress doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling. Luckily his rapid HIV came back negative, and I have hep B antibodies so I'm safe from that aspect, but I'm still waiting on the hep C, which there is no real treatment for, only supportive therapies. They said the chances of me getting syphilis through a needle slick is slim, put the chances aren't zero. I'm beside my self with fear for my baby! They had to call in infections control cause I'm pregnant, and I have to be followed by them and have multiple repeat blood tests to make sure I don't deviate from my baseline blood work, and that my pregnancy isn't at more risk. I don't think I'm going to feel safe until my baby is in my arms and I know he/she is perfect and okay. What a day I've had today!!! Ugh 👎👎👎
