Disasters/war?

Question

This is a question I have that's been floating in my mind ever since I began growing a tiny human....
If something happens like a disaster, or a war breaks out, what am I supposed to do? What is my protocol? My husband is deployed, and we haven't been able to talk much about it, because we get very little communication privileges, but what happens?
Does anybody know?

I only learned about the upside down ID thing a few months ago, and I've been with my husband 15 of his 16 years in the military! I don't know of any other specific ways that you would signal an emergency or dangerous situation happening.

I saw someone mention the upside down Id which is true if you pull through the gate and hand the gaurd your id upside down there going to ask you if everything is ok,
I also saw someone mention the fro, I've only ever had 1 fro that was somewhat ok, Red Cross is much more effective at getting you in touch with your husband.
Now if your asking the protocol if something major was to happen like we get bombed or break out in a new war; we really don't have protocol. Do what it takes to get to a safe place most bases would assign personel to direct us on where to go or what to do. Don't count on your husband being able to come for you or even call I know for mine he would be activated immdiately and would be expected to attend to his marine corps duties.

I don't know what branch your husband is in, but in the Marine Corps we have what we call Family Readiness Officers or FRO's. I think I remember hearing that some branches don't have anyone who stays in touch with spouses, but if you do, you should know how to get in touch with them. You should have a phone number and an email address. If you don't hear from them often, you might shoot him an email asking if there is anyway you guys could get  regular updates or newsletters from those in his command.

Depending upon what he in his unit are doing overseas, information on though maybe very slim. But if you have any issues, such as with your pregnancy, you can get in touch with the FRO/similar person. You can also send Red Cross messages, and those messages will get sent via special avenues. Other than that, there's not really anything you do other than what you're doing now. You would of course try not to worry much… And keep yourself busy! 😉

Now, I'm not certain if this is what you were referring to, but if you were afraid of things happening in our own country, then your main priority would be keeping you and your little one safe. That would also be what your husband would want, I'm sure. If you live on base, bass will be locked down. If you don't live on base, your approach will need to be a little different. My husband and I have talked about disaster preparation in the past. If something were to happen, such as were breaking out on our soil, and we felt that our location was being targeted more or was more dangerous, our main goal would be to head to a place that we have discussed and selected. This is where he would expect me to go and where he would look for me if we had no way to communicate. Ideally, I would also have emergency supplies ready to go, or at least food storage, just in case. As of right now, we don't really have our food storage or emergency supplies built-up well. But that's going to change in the future.
