Choking in sleep

My baby chokes when she sleeps a lot. Coughs then stops breathing for a second then gasps for air. It scares me to death but I am learning to manage my anxiety with my doctor. She assures me it's fine. The baby is capable of clearing her own airway. So my question is, is it still safe to swaddle them in one of those little mini straight jacket things? I just can't help but imagine myself wrapped in one of those things and choking. Seems like it would be hell, but she sleeps so well in it.  Tonight is her first night trying it. She has slept so well, but I have been awake the whole time worrying.
