I'm not sure what the correct answer is sorry but I Personally HATE opening gifts in front of people because I feel under pressure to react to the gift in a positive way obviously but I don't know how positive to be lol

I absolutely LOVE those showers where I am asked to bring the gift unwrapped. I hate sitting through people opening their gifts and would rather just visit with everyone and the mom to be. I was just at a shower like that last week and it was GREAT. They had a beautiful display of gifts and the mom to be went through them briefly and thanked everyone. Plus it's a complete waste of paper (I'm a green-freak). I'm definitely going that route.

If you are having an actual shower, ask the hosts to spread the word that gifts are to be unwrapped. Blame it on the fact that you want to spend the time with everyone who is there to celebrate the baby, not spend time opening gifts and not visiting. That way, they are on display for all to see yet you don't have to mess with pretending you love everything when you may not. That's what I plan on doing!

I sort of hate being the center of attention and it made me uncomfortable/stressed out to open baby shower gifts in front of everyone. But I did it anyway. I figured if people are kind enough to buy me stuff, the least I can do is show public appreciation for their generosity.
