Night pumping?

I have worked very hard to create enough supply for my baby. Just got the clear from my doctor to stop supplementing with formula! So proud of my hard work and dedication over hear last 8 weeks when everyone told me to give up. Anyway, now that I'm making milk and she's sleeping six hours I wake up with huge sore boobs. I have read this can hurt supply and wanted to see if anyone pumped in the middle of the night and if they still had enough milk to feed when baby wakes.

I usually put my daughter down for her first big sleep, and then I'll do stuff around the house for an hour, then pump and go to bed. That way it's not the middle of the night but it keeps my supply up and takes the edge off when I wake up, too.

Pump at night! This will help build your supply. Even if baby wakes up to nurse, you will have milk for him. Babies are much more efficient at draining the breast than a pump.

I do pump once at night, but sometimes I let it go like 7-8 hours then I pump like 11 oz at that one pumping. I don't think it has hurt my supply. I do pump a little longer when I go longer stretches without pumping.

My daughter is only 8 days old an my milk has really come in to the point where my boobs hurt in the morning. I refuse to pump middle of the night but I do need to discipline myself to pump before I go to bed.  Then rotating the boobs when breastfeeding.  Also remember there is such a thing as over pumping...you don't want your body to think that you are feeding twins.  It's all about finding the right balance.

My DD has been sleeping through the night for five weeks now, and I've been having to wake up around 2am every night to pump or else my boobs will explode! I only pump (usually) enough to fill a bottle (5-6 oz each breast) so I don't 100% empty my breast just in case she wakes up shortly after I pump. So far it's been fine, and even though I worry all the time about my supply, I really haven't had an issue yet (knock on wood!).

I pump in the middle of the night simply to eatablish a feeding routine to Mimick how one would be with my baby. If I can't pump cause I'm too tired, I bf my boobs and go back to be for some sort of relief. As is sit here I'm pumping after feeding my girl. I know I need this supply for when I go back to work. It's a little annoying but I know I need it. I have almost 300 oz of bm in my freezer. Stay committed and it will pay off.

How did you build up your supply? I was doing great until a few days ago, it went down and I'm starting to really stress about it. I do not want to have to formula feed. I do have to mainly pump though because my baby girl was born early and isn't strong enough yet to take a whole feeding from nursing (but we do try a few times a day and then I give her pumped milk after)

That's awesome! Good job 😊 I usually only pump right after putting my daughter down (30-45 minutes after her last feeding). Then if I wake up feeling engorged, I will wake her up to feed her if she's not already up. If I still feel engorged - which I often do as she usually only takes one side per feeding - I'll just hand express into a bottle or the sink.

I also had some supply issues at the beginning so I totally understand how confusing it can be to try to make sure you have enough for your baby. It sounds like you are making plenty though, and your body will pretty quickly equalize to produce the right amount that you need based on how much your baby eats and how much you pump. Congrats on sticking with it!!
