Anyone from San Diego?

Question

I'm moving to San D after Kairi is born, and I need to know how my allowances pan out, and rules and regulations because I am so worried. 
My husband is military, so we get BAH. He wants to get a one bedroom apartment that costs $1500. That leaves us with $500 to pay for utilities. 
Will we be able to make it? 
Are we allowed to have us and a newborn in a one bedroom apartment?
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible, or if we need to live on base. 
Any advice at all could be useful.

$1,500 will get you vastly different apartments depending on which part of the county you will be living in. I have no idea how idea how much base housing is, but it usually seems pretty nice and it must be less expensive than what you can get off base. That said, you could make your budget work if you end up living in one of the less expensive areas of SD.

I'm not in San d, but live about an hour out. I'd say, if you can, live on base. It can be very expensive to live out here in SoCal unfortunately, especially on the coast

Have you factored in other living expenses ? 500 seems like a tight budget to me especially with a baby on the way ..

I live here in SD. $1500 can be pretty hard to find a decent place in a decent area. Base housing would be your best route. I get E5 BAH and my husband works full time as a civilian. We are trying to make ends meet with another daughter coming. But if you look on Rent.com for Mission Valley, Mission Hills, or in that vacinity...you may be able to find a place with your budget. Try to look for the outerskirts of SD but still a part of the county, like Chula Vista, Bonita, Otay Mesa, Spring Valley, Lakeside, Santee, El Cajon. Not all areas are bad. You just have to do your research. I hope that helps.
