Doula or no doula?

Question

For those having an unmmedicated birth, will you be hiring a doula? Also, comment who you plan to have in the room with you. I'm birthing at a birth center and plan to have my husband, sister, and mom. It has always just been assumed my mom and sister will be there. My husband thinks we should consider a doula.

I've had two successful natural/unmedicated births and this time around I only want my husband in the room. My mom couldn't handle me while I was in transition last time and tried convincing me to get an epidural which was NOT what I wanted. I didn't end up getting one but still don't want anyone in the room that may try to push me toward an epidural.

Not for me and just having my husband there who is an amazing support. For me, it's a time for the two of us to share.

Excuse my ignorance but what those words means??? Is my first pregnancy and I have never hear them before 😔

This is my first baby, and my goal is to have as natural a birth as possible. I worry that if I don't have someone else in the room to help me towards that goal, I might wuss out 😑. I'm definitely having a doula! She will also help me maintain a positive, relaxed mood, and to keep unwanted visitors (like my mother in law who doesn't respect boundaries, and my mother who doesn't trust anyone without MD at the end of their name) out of my birthing room. I'll be at a birthing center within a hospital, and the only people I'll have in the room with me are my husband, my midwife, and my doula. I'll have a little more control over the experience, and I'll have someone to support me (and my husband) throughout.

I am hoping for an unmedicated birth and we hired our doula about a week ago now;) it totally depends, a doulas purpose is to help support and empower you through the birthing process and before birth. If that's not something you feel like you are wanting, no biggie, just personal choice:) They are also there just to help explain your options and make sure you are treated well during the whole experience. I have never heard of anyone regretting getting a doula if that helps:)

No doula for me. Just my husband in there with me. I'm delivering at a millitary hospital. I don't know if they would allow a doula even if I wanted one.
