Genetic counseling??

Question

Anyone ever done this?? They want to send me to a bigger hospital for genetic counseling because my SO was born with tuberous sclerosis. The disorder is uncommon so my Dr doesn't have much information for me but it can cause brain tumors kidney tumors seizures etc etc....my SO had a more minor case and had grand mal seizures when he was young, and a tumor on his kidney. Some people can have severe epilepsy and decreased cognitive functions.  Just wondering if anyone who has done this knows what genetic counseling entails??

I've had it done because I had a son born with congenital heart defects....basically they will spend about an hour with you.they go through immediate family history and if anyone else has a history in the family. If they feel it necessary they will take bloods and send them away and usually you wait 6 weeks for results. To be honest it's good for peace of mind and rules out a lot of genetic issues.

I have a friend with a little boy who has tuberous sclerosis too so it's great to see your hubby doing so well!!!

I've been to genetic counseling too. You go for an hour and they talk to you about your possiblities and the things that could happen. I have a chromosome issue that causes me to miscarry 75% of the time. It was so nice to get the information I needed and it helped me figure out my options. I think if they are suggesting it, you should go. Information about your baby is never a bad thing.
