How Long Is Too Long?

Question

I am 40 weeks and two days overdue, I have scheduled to be induced on June 18th, but I really want my son to come on his own. There are many disadvantages to have an induce labor (so I have read on babycenter.com) and then there are several risk I have to consider if I wait for Noah to respond on his own(such as my placenta shutting down and not being able to provide my son the nutrients he needs). So moms how long is too long of a wait? Should I just follow through with the induction?

42 weeks is when risks arise. Before 42 weeks you're okay to wait if you want too. Most first time moms don't deliver until 41 weeks anyway. :)

You can do an induction where all they do is break your water.

I've been induced twice, everything went perfectly. There are risks no matter what you do. Labor and delivery is highly variable and unpredictable.

One reason I chose to induce was that I've watched several friends and family members wait long past their due dates and many of them ended up with complications of having a c section due to their inability to vaginally deliver a larger baby.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it's what YOU feel comfortable with. No one can tell you what's right for you and your baby.

I was 41 weeks and 6 days when I went in to be induced but before they induced me they put stuff in me to ripen my cervix more and I actually went into labor myself and didn't even need to be induced:) my babygirl was born perfect❤️

42 weeks is usually the cutoff but every doctor and hospital will have their personal preference and policy which can slightly differ. Every individual is different I'm sure they will do whatever is best for you and baby!

I was born at 42wks & was still under 7lbs, my son was born at 41wks (induced & resulted in emergency csect) he was 11lbs. I started asking to be induced at 37wks cause I could just tell he was going to be huge. None of the Drs nor the ultrasound tech thought he would be over 8lbs & refused to induce until 41wks. So everyone was shocked when he came out at 11lbs. Trust your instincts, they are usually correct.

The hospital I'm delivering at will induce you at 10 days because it's BC women and children's hospital. They're specifically for women and babies and are very good.

I was induced with my oldest and it was so smooth and safe. I wanted my daughter to come on her own but it wasn't happening and i wanted to be safe.
