Twins???

Question

I has a US at 8 weeks one day. Doctor informed me.there are two sacs but only one heart beat. I was asked over and over again if I've had any bleeding or cramping which I have had none. Does this mean there maybe a chance they just couldn't see the second heart beat? Or is it common to have two sacs and just one baby? I'm just curious.

Could be what is called 'vanishing twin syndrome'

This happened to me. We had two babies until week 8 and then one's heartbeat stopped and was shrinking...it's very common. My doctor said some 30% of pregnancies begin as twins but very few turn into fully viable pregnancies. It's heartbreaking regardless and I'm sorry for your loss. Try to take comfort that it's better this way for your other baby because it is much safer to have it happen now than later.

My first was a twin until about 7 or 8 weeks. I did have spotting though. I have heard it's common for pregnancies to start as twins and either one miscarries or is reabsorbed by the body
