Breastfeeding..?

Question

I've been saying since day one that I was going to breastfeed. I'm 23 weeks now and I'm kinda questioning doing it now. I don't know if I'd be comfortable or not. Could I start and if I don't like it stop? Anyone have experience with the ups and downs of it?

It's an amazing feeling feeding your child. Made me SOO happy in the hospital. Of course you can always stop. My daughter started getting a bad lach later on and I stopped and started pumping. Worst mistake. I hated pumping, it feels so good to nurse! This time through I'm roughing it out and breast feeding. We saved do much money and my daughter is 2 and has never been sick. Great benefits.

The best advice I got while breastfeeding was not to quit on a bad day. There are rough times in the beginning for sure, but I'd encourage you to stick it out when you are having a rough day (hello, growth spurts!!!!). Wait until you get over the emotion of a tough day and if it is still not something you want to do, then you can stop and not feel like you just gave up in a moment of weakness. Don't feel bad if you give up, either.

Absolutely do it!! I'm 2 weeks PP and I couldn't imagine not feeding my child. It's the most amazing bonding experience ever. I look forward to feeding her. It was hard at first, I cried in the hospital because I thought it was going to be so easy. It's not easy, it's hard work but once you get it down, it's like second nature. My daughter is just now mastering her latch and I've graduated from a nipple shield to my own breast. Definitely give it at least a month before you decide not to.

Yes- absolutely- you can start nursing and stop if you want. Your milk will come in and then at some point it will dry up when you stop nursing. Breast feeding is a challenge at times but there are huge benefits. I'd encourage you to set small goals (like nurse for 2 weeks or a month), commit to that, and then reset the goal from there. I set my goal as a year, which may be too aggressive for some, but I knew that's what was best for our family and our son. Good luck!

You want to do it, so you should definitely try. You can always stop. I know plenty of people that only BF for a month, some even shorter. I BF for 8months. I realized just how expensive formula is after switching. We were paying more for formula than mine and my husbands groceries combined. With this baby I plan to go a year. I'll probably pump exclusively at around 8 months though.

I will say this, it's not easy. It's team work with you and the baby and it can be hard. Especially ehen you're all emotional after having a baby, but stick with it and practice practice practice.

Of course you can. This is your body. I do recommend trying just so you don't miss out on the incredible bonding experience it could give you with your baby but if you try and it's not for you then decide to pump or use formula. There is no "wrong" decision here!
