Convertible car seat or booster car seat?

Baby is 15 libs right now. Should I wait for the booster or go ahead and get the convertible?

Never put a baby that small in a booster seats. Booster seats are meant for like 5 year olds.

For now keep the baby in their infant car seat until whatever the guidelines say on the car seat (keep it rear facing too and always in the backseat). Usually infant car seats can have a baby who is 4lbs- about 30lbs depending on brand. I'll buy the one that takes baby up to 35 lbs. 
After using the infant car seat to weight limit, buy a convertible car seat like this one that takes baby up to 100lbs.
The bottom car seat is a diono it works from 4lbs-120lbs

I don't know if other states are different, but in the KY the child had to be 4 years of age AND a minimum of 40lbs to be placed in a booster seat.

I highly doubt any state goes younger than 4. Boosters are meant for preschool till 9 years old. DEFINITELY not for a baby

Do you mean car seat that changes into a booster?  I have one my son is 4 and 40lbs but he still fits in the 5pt harness that will later be a "booster seat". He was in a convertible until he outgrew the straps. Shouldn't the child be rear facing at that weight? What seat do you have now?
