Is it normal for your SO to call a friend (that's a female) love? Like "what's up, love?" Or "yes mam :)" Is it something to be upset over or is it completely normal and shouldn't be thought about?...

I think it depends on whether or not that's normal phrasing for him. A friend of mine calls all women friends "love" or "darling." That's just the way he's always been. I think it's sweet. But if that's not something he normally does, then I'd be upset about it.

I'm from Louisiana and in the south it's very common. Ma'am is literally used for every woman in every situation it's just like a respectful female noun. My friends, parents, family, their friends, family, strangers, whatever. And I have a few guy friends as well as girl friends that use love in a phrase like what's up love? Right off the top of my head my husband and is best friend who's a guy we both say that to each other pretty much every time we talk. Obviously I use the phrase with others also but he's like family. In my opinion personally, it's nothing to get worried about because it's super common. However the people I do use love with as in like 'what's up, love?' Are really good friends not just random people. So with that one I think you'd need more history than just a stranger or acquaintance to use that phrase. But I'm sure it just depends?

That would kinda make me upset but it depends on how close they are and if that's q long time bestfriend I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're worried why don't you ask you SO. I mean jealousy is a bitch, everyone has it. Just have facts and statements behind it to make sure you aren't wrong about who and what you are referring too.

My friend does that. If its with his girlfriend he says yes ma'am, love, and darling. If its with friends it's just yes ma'am and darling. the darling part made his girlfriend kind of jealous but it's just the way he talks around people

I think it depends. Sometimes stuff like this is normal cultural slang, sometimes its just normal for the person (as in they say it to everyone). In those cases I wouldn't find it upsetting. If he had several girlfriends (of the same level of friendship/closeness) and he was selective in who gets called love, then i would think something was weird about it.
