What is priority when it comes down to raising your children?

Bear in mind people still to this day live in natual circumstances in rainforests and have healthy happy children. Just a thought today.........

I remember reading this study where they looked at the value of money and how much happiness it adds. I think it said something like after 70,000 a year nothing extra has it as big of an impact on happiness. What I'm trying to say is that there's always going to be a basic financial need that needs to be met in order to provide necessities for your child. Once those needs are met everything else is extra. Growing up in a house it's full of love is infinitely more important than all the extra.

Yeah. I can't choose one over the other. To do so would be extremely naive and horribly ignorant of children's needs.

I don't have kids yet, but boy when I do emotional health is going to be the priority 100% of the time. You can have a wonderful life on very little. We don't need to compromise our children's emotional wellbeing to obtain an ideal amount of crap.

I think emotional needs are more and more starting to take the back burner as society progresses, and material things are being held to a higher importance. And it's ridiculous. As long as basic needs are met, every other possession is a WANT. Not saying we all don't buy things we want instead of need, we all do (unless you're living in a 3rd world country). But I'll never understand the person that makes $100k a year, pays a $3k/mo morgage, has 2 car payments, goes out to eat every day (sometimes more than once), has a maid, and then has regular emotional breakdowns that they don't have enough money for one reason or another. Yes, I know this person. My motto: live below your means, never above .And always help those in need when you have more than enough. I have also seen many parents try to buy their kids love/acceptance/forgiveness with material things... Just, why??

Meeting emotional and psychological needs takes priority over financial needs, IMO. I think it's important to try your very best to raise a good and decent human being. You don't need to be wealthy to do that.

I'd say my child's happiness is more important, but you have to have some sort of income to support the basic necessities.

Well I wonder how people do it in third world countries... And I mean third by natives that live in the jungle... Remote areas. And still get through....
