Daycare?

Question

Any moms ever start a small daycare? If so how did you go about it? And how much did you charge? Looking into this for next year I want to get a head start on everything I may need

Research rhe rules on your area. I looked into doing this as well. In Florida is need state and county approval. Find out what other home daycares are charging and what facility daycares charge. Look into insurance as well. Good luck!

If your looking for just at home, you have to have less than 7 children there is a point system meaning different children of certain ages are more points that will add up to seven, this is to help prevent people from watching like 7 babies. Also I would charge less than your average daycares in your area. Maybe have a contract drawn up to protect yourself and accidents that could possibly happen. I'd recommend only doing it for friends and friends of friends or family, never any strangers........ unless your going to open a professional out of home daycare.

My mother in law does it. She charges 25/ day but she provides food. Which is less than daycare which is 40+/ day where we live.

Definitely find out what your state's regulations are! It may not be legal to have a daycare without becoming certified and regulated. For your safety and the children! 
In Massachusetts, its the department of early education & care that regulates these things.

It all depends on what you want to do. I agree with PP to check regulations in your area. Where I live you can watch up to three kids in your home without having to register as a day care. I offered to watch my friend baby (whenever she gets pregnant) as I will be a SAHM after my baby comes in October. I told her I'd charge her $500 a month which is half the cost of daycare and on weeks/months where she's not working (she's a teacher) she doesn't have to pay me

First thing is your house has to get approved for a certain number of kids. But if it's less than 5 it's fine I think. Usually you'd wanna charge a little less than a normal day care. So I'd say $50 a week for 3+ and 100$ a week for infants. And the parents would have to supply the lunches and diapers and wipes
