Do you think American schools.provide sufficient sex education to preteens and teenagers?

The reason im asking is because i think ive learned.more on this app then i ever did as a teen. They never taught us about other alternative bc methods besides abstenence and condoms...

I think it all depends on where the school is, honestly. In the "bible belt" states in the U.S., of course they're only going to teach abstinence. I grew up in Southern California and by 3rd grade they were putting all the girls in one room, boys in another, and going over all the changes that occur to our bodies during puberty. In high school, I had a health class that focused on Sex Ed, contraception, STDs, etc.

I believe that American sex Ed doesn't cover enough ground. They should also be teaching how there is more than on gender,more than one sexual orientation,what to do in a situation of rape,explain how every vagina looks different,all that kinda stuff.

I'm not sure if there is a standard of learning. I went to a catholic hs in NYC and was still taught all about sex and condoms and all that.

In middle school, they said "stay abstinent but definitely use condoms or you will die" basically. In high school, they brought up STDs and how baby's grew in the belly, so that was very informative. However, Glow has taught me the most! I was never taught about options of birth control, I was never taught about pre cum, I was never taught about anything involving sexual experiences.

The last time in was addressed was 6th grade when many kids hadn't even gone through puberty. It was focused mainly on abstinence and discurging students with pictures of STDs. I wish school had taught me how birth control worked, the effectiveness of different contraceptives and where to get them. It was almost as if they didn't want to address the idea that pre/teens and teens have sex and rather chose to keep everyone from doing it. It was going to happen anyways they may as well have actually educated kids on what they were doing

I was taught in middle school. They were very thorough on how children are conceived and how stds are contracted and even showed pretty gross photos. The teacher was younger and relatable but I don't remember how long the class was. Taught us how to properly apply condoms as well. Went over HIV virus. Basically everything. The kids laughed a lot but they understood the serious of it all and ask lots of questions. Then in health class in high school it was like a week of sex Ed because there were chapters on STDs and reproduction. I went to school in Alabama.

I do think children/preteens/teens need to be educated about sex. So they don't make stupid decisions. However, I believe that should be up to the parents. The parents should decide at what age and how they want to present the information to their children. I don't think it should be done in schools. My sex Ed class was ridiculous! They taught us the most obscure things that we shouldn't have even known.....

I think that they teach kids way to early and they don't really make the kids comfortable enough to ask questions. They only teach us in 5th grade for 2 classes and then another time in 8th grade for about 6 classes, never had one in high school, but mostly it's about the scientific side of things, not really about protection or the sexually transmitted deasises. Only saying this because my sister who is in 5th grade had a sex Ed class... They didn't really explain it to her so her and her friends decided that they wanted to learn more an looked up sex on the Internet 😓 lets just say that it was an awkward conversation when she brought it up at dinner, we restricted her Internet access and explained it more in depth to her though
