Several cuddly thing that are the same, that you sleep with and then rotate to wash regularly. That way, your baby won't be attached to one toy. If one gets lost, you won't have a totally distraught child. My friend had 5 of a washable toy and it's been great for washing the toys when dirty.

I would just focus on sensory toys for newborns, there is a lot of stuff on pinterest for newborns.
