Does vitamin water count toward water consumption?

I'm sure this may seem like a dumb question but does vitamin water count as what we need to drink in water? I don't really like water so I was drinking Gatorade and was told by my doctor not to drink it because of the sugar. What about vitamin water?

People actually  said yes to this? Vitamin water is not water and should not count as water consumption.

I would check the sugar content on the label. I believe vitamin water, much like Gatorade, has a lot of sugar in it. Another alternative would be coconut water. Less sugar (11g - 15g for vita coco brand), very hydrating, and there are brands with different flavors like peach and mango, lemonade, pineapple, and orange. One other alternative is something called Nuun. They're tablets you dissolve in a glass of water that are flavored and have less than a gram of sugar (at least the berry one I have does). You find them in the grocery store usually around the natural food aisles near the Cliffs and energy bars, etc. However I would say to double check with your doctor if you plan to drink them every day or multiple a day as these are all electrolytes which means they contain usually sodium, potassium, magnesium among a few other things to help the body hydrate. You want to make sure it's okay to take in quite a bit extra of those things. I know as a runner if I drank too many electrolytes without balancing with water it would give me digestive issues. I hope this at least gives you other options!

I will drink just water or infused water, Gatorade and vitamin water has sodium so your body will retain liquids

All liquids count toward hydration to some degree. But, the higher the sugar, caffeine, or solid content (like in milk), the less it counts. Water is the best option, but not the only option.

Be careful with vitamin water. It does count as liquid but it also has a lot of vitamin. Too much vitamin can hurt you and your baby.  With anything, check with your doctor before consuming to make sure you're not getting too much of something.

People who take vitamins and minerals in amounts above the established upper limits of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) may harm tissues where the vitamin is stored in their body, Hord explains. That’s why you shouldn’t take more than the recommended amount. - excerpt taken from WebMD article.

"Excesses of all nutrients, from water to iron, to water-soluble B vitamins, can potentially cause toxicities," says Norman Hord, PhD, MHD, RD, associate professor in the department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University.

Too much vitamin and you'll pee it out. Most vitamins are water soluble. Your body only stores fat soluble ones.

Vitamin water is deceivingly pretty bad for you. The marketing is genius...but read up on it. La Croix sparkling waters are yummy if you're needing something different than plain water. Also, like others mentioned, coconut water!

I've read that vitamin water has a lot of sugar. I was also told the same about Gatorade. I never drank water before so it's hard getting into water 8 or more times a day. It gets easier the more you drink. I started off by adding lemons or strawberries to my water to give it a little flavor. Then over time I could tolerate it plain. Hope this helps!

You should try putting fruit in your waters, if you haven't already. It's really good 😊
