Belly support band?

Question

I have seen these talked about quite a bit and my prenatal classes mentioned them as well. What are they for and are they really necessary? Google just showed me 500 stores that has them for sale.

Not necessary but definitely helps. Mine reduces my back pain by supporting some extra weight from my belly and giving my lower back a break. Also, when I run or do jumping jacks my belly bounces and gets sore. The belly band stops it from bouncing as much and relieves that problem.

I used one for hip pain and it was a night-and-day improvement. It was annoying to take on and off, and I did have to take it off every time I had to go to the bathroom, which was all the time, but it was still better than being in pain.

I believe they are used to help take some of the weight of the baby off your lower back and hips. I've heard they've been a lifesaver for many woman really uncomfortable.
