Vbac or c section??

Question

I was planning a repeat c sec with this birth ( second pregnancy) but my nurse asked me to reconsider a Vbac since I'm healthy and had a healthy pregnancy. Any moms that have been through with opinions on this? How many are successful? Pros/cons?

I was kind of looking forward to having it scheduled.

I've had two VBAC and planning another with this baby. 
In my experience vBAC is hands down a million times easier recovery.

I recovered astonishingly well from my first section. The idea of a VBAC made my husband nervous and when I thought about the convenience of having it scheduled, I decided to just do the repeat. I went into labor at 35 weeks and my water broke at 36 weeks which was definitely not scheduled. Just because it's on the calendar doesn't mean it will work that way. I will say that having a repeat c-section was even easier for me than the first. I didn't even need pain meds other than Ibuprofen when I got home, but I'm kind of a freak like that. It's a very personal decision obviously and I think I might be leaning toward VBAC in your case, but it would also depend on why the first one happened. My first got stuck in the birth canal and they could see her head the whole time I pushed (for over three hours). She even had a bruise on her head from whatever she was stuck on. I had no way of knowing the same thing wouldn't happen again and I knew I would likely only have one more after my second, so the c-section was a good call for me.

For some reason that's unknown, most c section women don't end up doing the VBAC. The rate is around 90%. Yikes. I'd say go for a VBAC!

I wasn't sure at first but my husband and I do want more children and I don't use birth control and the more c-sections you have the higher the risk of complications. So for me Vbac was an easy choice. I did a lot of research and feel comfortable with my decision. Plus I have a three year old so I was also concerned with recovery. I know a successful Vbac would be easier to recover from than another c-section. I'm not sure if I would choose the Vbac or not if this was our last child but there are positives and negative to both. It doesn't hurt to look into it to either educate yourself on your choices or to back up one you've already made :)

There are some risks, but the good news is that they will monitor you constantly and if things look sketchy at all, they'll do a c-section.

I'd say it's worth a try if you trust your caregivers.

I have a 2.5 year old and I am planning on having a repeat c section. The reason is going to be different for everyone. I feel like you have to WANT to have the vbac for labor to work in your favor but if it is something that you're riding the fence about it will be a lot harder on you mentally if you were to "fail" not saying c sections are failures obviously (since I'm on my second) just saying mentally you should prepare yourself for things to go either way just like if you were to be doing it all over again with your first. Ultimately it should be your choice and if nurses and doctors are being pushy and making you feel uncomfortable about you decision you might want to see someone else. It's your body and baby! Your choice mama.

I can't have one because I'm not a good candidate, but if I could I would definitely try it.  At first the risk of abruption scared me a lot, but the actual risk isn't very high and they monitor you very closely to keep it safe.  As long as your doctor has performed many of them and you ask what the success rate is then I would try it if you feel comfortable.

I've had 2 successful all natural VBACs (9 pounds 7 ounces & 8 pounds 15 ounces) and hoping for my 3rd in about 6 weeks. It's definitely a very personal decision, but finding a supportive doc or midwife is key. Recovery was much easier and my doc even induced me for my 2nd VBAC and will for this one as well. I have heard a scheduled section is much easier than one where you have labored & pushed, but if just depends on what you decide. Good luck in your choice!
