Any moms out there had their child's tonsils out?

Question

So I know this isn't pregnancy related but this is stressing me. My 5 year old has had strep throat over 7 times in less then a year! Doctor doesn't seem to be worried but I am because she's never feeling good! And now it affecting her eating! I read online that it's suggested for a child to see a ENT if they get it more then 6 times in a year. I know this will end up with having to get her tonsils out but I'm scared because she's my baby girl n I don't want anything to happen during surgery :(

My daughter had hers out by the time she was 5. The recovery for her was amazing. It was like 2 days and she didn't even act like it hurt and would try and eat. I am glad we did it while she was young. My husband on the other hand got his out at 26 and was like 2 weeks recovery. It was really hard on him. So, if she needs it, it's best to do it while they are young.

Do you even need your tonsils? My sister was 4 when she had her tonsils and adenoids out because they were so swollen that even with intense steroids they didn't shrink down enough for her to be able to breath. My parents had to use one of those alarm monitor things for my sister cuz she'd stop breathing in the middle of the night and shed snore too. Go see an ent and have them look her over and if they want to remove them then I'd go for it. If your worried about the surgery talk to the dr and the surgeon. Their there to reassure you and make sure the surgery goes well and nothing happens.

Please get them out while she's young, for her sake! I grew up like her, sick all the time, finally got them out at 16 and dr said they were some of the largest he's seen. Had a VERY PAINFUL 3 week recovery. They say kids bounce back so quickly! I rarely get sick now. Also I no longer snore and sleep better than before. I'm 28 now and still cringe thinking of that recovery time. Do it now for sure!!

My daughter has them out at 6 by she wasn't eating and losing weight cause she kept getting sick. I had mine out 23 she had it was better than I did! She wanted to go to school as soon as she woke up from surgery! Which didn't even take long 30 40 mins tops :)

Take it from someone who grew up like your child. I had strep 10 times in one year. My pediatrician told my parents don't worry her tonsils will shrink as she gets older. They believed him because he is the doctor. Well they didn't shrink and I continued to get sick for years. I finally got a job that would allow for the time off so I got them out when I was 29. I'm now 32 and I've gotten 1 sore throat in that time. However the recovery from that surgery is 10 times worse as an adult. Please take your child to the specialist to get their opinion. I wish my parents had.

If it will help her not be so sick all the time it's worth it. My husband is almost 30 and is constantly sick due to his tonsils. In turn I get sick and with us about to have a baby in the house I told him enough is enough, he has to get them taken out! I wish he had had it done when he was younger (like I did) because it would have been lest painful for him and saved him years of illnesses. I'm scared but it's for his health.

My cousins little boy had his out when he was just over 3 and her cousins daughter had hers out at 2. They both did fine and was themselves a day after. But every child is different.
