Do they have to break it?

Question

I'm just curious.. Do they have to break your waters? You know how you see the pictures of mothers who give births to their babies still in the sac just clueless that they've been born... So, why do they break it? Besides to just get the birth going faster. Is there a health benefit?

Please no criticism, I'm asking a question and would like real answers. Thank you!

It depends on your OB. My midwife didn't break mine. I was pushing with my waters intact, but they broke while pushing. If you would like your OB to refrain from breaking yours, talk to them when you get closer to 40wks.

I asked my dr about this before my son was born & he said even if he didn't break my water (I was induced) that the contractions & pressure from baby moving down would pop my water naturally. He was right. It did. He ha been delivering babies for over 20 years & has only seen 1 baby born in the sack.

I thought that the babies in the sac were caul babies--the sac doesn't remain intact but instead the remains cling to the baby. It's very rare.

I find contractions don't hurt as much when before the water breaks so this time I would probably ask to leave the sak let it break on its own.

My husband just saw that picture yesterday and said it was one of the coolest things he's ever seen! It is so beautiful, but super rare.

They don't have to. It will most likely break on its own. Some people's break right before they have to push, other's break before they even hit active labor. I don't think it's very common for it not to break at all and the baby be still inside the sac at birth.

My water broke on its own. I was 6 cm dilated then I heard a pop & I just had the epidural so it felt like tingly stuff on my leg & I called the nurse in & she said it was my water so.!

I don't know that you have to have them break your water. ACTUALLY: you don't have to have anything done you don't want to. However, that being said I have heard of it being harder to get baby out if they're still in the sac because sometimes they can get sucked back up in. I think it would be an awesome experience.
