Pap smear guidelines - good or bad?" /> As the daughter of a cervical cancer survivor, I am a firm believer in a once a year Pap smear. Due to obamacare regulations, most insurance will only cover one every 2-3 years now. I am outraged by this as I see what my mother went through and the side effects she is still dealing with 10+ years later. I believe every detection saved her life.

It has nothing to do with the affordable care act. It's a guideline and totally unrelated to insurance. If your doctor orders it because they think you need it then it is covered.

If you are high risk they will do it yearly.. Long as your doctor is aware.

I agree with you. I was recently screened for cervical cancer, back in May. I had to have a colposcopy and a LEEP. I now have to go every six months until all is cleared by my OB/GYN. I'm hoping my insurance isn't affected by these new guidelines. 😕
