After birth - why pads and not tampons?

Question

Might be a stupid question, but why do we need to get pads for the after birth bleeding instead of tampons? Is it because there is too much blood for a tampon to absorb or is it because you shouldn't be sticking anything "up there" so soon after the trauma of giving birth? 
I'm stocked up on overnight pads, they look as thick as the newborn diapers lol, just wondering why we can't use the more comfortable tampons.  Thanks!

I'm a serious tampon user- but trust me- when you have your baby you won't be wanting to put anything up there for a little while! You will be tender- and bleeding more than any tampon could handle any way. Not to mention the risk of infection etc. let your body bleed. It's a big wound from the placenta that needs to heal in your uterus, so it's got to flush out everything in all it's healing stages. One of the things that shocked me after, was I looked "down there" with a mirror.... Ummm. I started mega kegals from then on.... Talk about Tunnel vision ... 🙈🙈🙈 and yes it does tighten up again and feels the same. For dh too... After a month or two.

All I can say is oh my ouch! But in all seriousness,  risk of TSS would be increased and it's not like a period that you're having, it's a lot of other fluids and such coming out a tampon would also increase the risk of general infections. Trust me, you won't to insert anything up there right away and I'm a 100% tampon user normally

Tampons would most definitely Definitly not be comfortable after birth! You won't want to be putting anything in there for a while.

I opened an overnight pad to make a pad cicle and my husband said, "what are you doing with that diaper!" I was also shocked at how big they are!! It's been awhile...

Risk of infection and vaginal trauma. Your cervix doesn't automatically close after having a baby. It takes a little time.

All I know is I'm dreading wearing a pad more than giving birth. So uncomfortable! 😖

You'd probably have to change a tampon like every twenty minutes. But if you have a vaginal birth it doesn't go back right away. And if you tear OUCH!

Not to mention, you will be pretty sore after giving birth. The first time my husband and I tried to be intimate again after our first was born, it was more painful.... And that was 8 wks. Postpartum! 😳 I couldn't imagine trying to use tampons after birth! The pads are not fun, especially if you haven't used one since you were 12!
