Not sure

So this might sound stupid, but what the hell! 3 months ago I ditched my triphasil and we have been ttc. Had sex on all the right days. I have never been late but was late by one day and only had 2 days of what I assumed was a light period. Did a test but negative. Don't really know what to think. Please help!
