Any moms who never used pacifiers?

I helped raise my niece and because she was in the nicu after birth they gave her a pacifier, so by the time she came home she really needed one to calm down, well it took until she was 3 to get her to stop. My nephew luckily never really liked them. I know it's mostly because my sister never took them away, but I also know other people who had problems getting their kids to stop using them. With my baby girl I want to try to not use them. They seem like more of an issue than anything, always cleaning them if they fall, losing them, having to remember one anytime you leave, weaning them off of it, and the dental issue they can cause after a certain age. Has anyone successfully gone without them? Do I tell the nurses at the hospital I don't want her to have it?

If all else fails and you end up with s baby who can't cope without one way past the time you wanted them to be done with a paci, just take it from the baby one day and snip the tip off with scissors, then give it back. It will take the baby about a minute not to want it anymore.

You can say no pacifiers. I took my son's away at 5 months. It took him a night of crying to learn to self soothe. It's really based on parents taking it.

My daughter is three weeks old, and I didn't want to use them unless she needed them. She has recently had horrible gas, so after four hours of screaming we tried one of the soothers, she doesn't always take it but sometimes it helps her relax to pas the gas. I don't plan on sticking it in her mouth every time she cries, so I don't see her getting very attached to it.

My dr told me try not to give him one until after 1 month bc I'm breastfeeding. The dr wanted me to establish breastfeeding first then after that's going good I could give him a binky

Both of my children had pacifiers until about 6 months. It was at that point I took them and threw them in the trash. It didn't take long for them to adjust

I never used them! Never had any issues with finger sucking or restlessness. Best choice for us. I see a lot of kids and parents struggle with pacifiers and with co sleeping. Never start them on it and you don't have to struggle with stopping. GOOD LUCK!

I've never used a pacifier I've have 4 ebf babies I say no pacifier on the check in sheet, no bottles, no sugar water

We never used them, my daughter wasn't interested. We breastfed for a year and I often used it to soothe her, probably in the same way that a pacifier would. I have read that they can help reduce SIDS at night because of the sucking motion.

I don't see a need for them, we probably won't introduce one this time either.

I know this wasn't your question but the reason why I use pacifiers is because I sucked my finger as a child and it screwed up my teeth. I didn't want my kids figuring out their thumb or finger could soothe them because you can't take that away, you CAN take the pacifier away. I do blame myself for my first sons lateral lisp because I let him use it too long and for anytime he wanted it. With my second it's strictly used for bed time

I tried with two of my babies to help settle them and they didn't want them and with my third baby he relied on it so much but one day after he just turned 1 he decided he didn't want it anymore and literally would just throw them around the room.
